This is a 3-4 day class
where you will learn all of
the basic techniques of whipmaking. You will be taken
through a 4 foot 8 plait bullwhip with one 4 plait belly. Take
your whip home with you at the end of the class.

Make Your First
Short Signal/Snake Whip (Beginner)
This is a 3-4 day class where you will learn all of the basic
techniques of making an 8 plait signal or snake whip that is 3 or 4
feet
long. Take your whip home with you at the end of the class.

Make Your Own Indy Whip
(Intermediate)
This is a 4 day class where you will make a 6 foot Indy style bullwhip,
and includes all of the techniques specific to the Indiana Jones Style
bullwhip. Double plaited belly whip, with 12 plait overlay. Take your whip home with you at
the end of the class.

Make A
Fancy Whip (Advanced)
This is a 3-7 day class where you have your choice to learn to make a
fancy Bullwhip, Stockwhip, Snake whip, or Signal whip in 16 plait fine
grade kangaroo hide at any length. You will learn advanced
plaiting techniques involving plaiting with finer strands, as well as
plaiting patterns, and tying fancier knots. This class is fully
customizable to what you wish to acomplish. This class is only
available for those who have taken previous classes, and whose ability
is beyond the beginner.

Currently
the
only classes offered are 1-on-1 classes for single
individuals. Prices listed are for classes in our Southern Nevada
shop, and do not include meals or lodging. There are several
restaurants and hotels within just a few miles of our shop.

In the future we hope to offer a larger group whipmaking class, which
would help lower costs for all participants. If this is something

What
your class includes:
- All leather and materials
needed during the class.
- All basic tools you will need for the class including fids, knives,
lace cutter, etc..., and you will take these items home with you after
the class.
- Notes, measurements, and templates specific to your class, so you
will be able to duplicate the whip that was made during your class when
you get home.

during the class, as well as email support after the class.

Class
Overview:
In the whipmaking classes
you will learn all of the techniques
necessary to make your own whip from hide to finish.
You will learn to cut to a
taper, and
prepare your strands, including paring and beveling strands by hand.
You
will
work one on one,
and learn to braid bellies, and plait an overlay side by side with
MidWestWhipmakers.
You
will
have the
opportunity to ask all questions directly to the whipmaker as they come
up during the learning process, as well as having the unique ability to
see how professional whipmakers
work. Your techniques will be closely observed as to help you
avoid learning any bad habits from the start.
When
your
class is complete you will have a
high quality kangaroo hide whip that was made under the direct
instruction of a proffessional using the exact same techniques as the
the best whipmakers in the world, and made with your own two hands.
At
the
end of the class,
both you and the instructor will go over the details of your finished
whip, and discuss which techniques need to be improved upon, as well as
which techniques you are proficient with, so you will be ready to
continue working on your skills on your own.
