Class Overview:

We used to be located in the Midwest (hence our name), but our workshop is now located in sunny Pahrump, NV, about a one hour drive from Las Vegas (our nearest large city and airport).

In the whipmaking classes you will learn all of the techniques necessary to make your own whip from hide to finish.

You will learn to cut to a taper, and prepare your strands, including paring and beveling strands by hand.

You will work one on one, and learn to braid bellies, and plait an overlay side by side with MidWestWhipmakers.

You will have the opportunity to ask all questions directly to the whipmaker as they come up during the learning process, as well as having the unique ability to see how professional whipmakers work.  Your techniques will be closely observed as to help you avoid learning any bad habits from the start.
Proud Student!
When your class is complete you will have a high quality kangaroo hide whip that was made under the direct instruction of a proffessional using the exact same techniques as the the best whipmakers in the world, and made with your own two hands.

                                                whips made in the Class
At the end of the class, both you and the instructor will go over the details of your finished whip, and discuss which techniques need to be improved upon, as well as which techniques you are proficient with, so you will be ready to continue working on your skills on your own.
