Picture the iconic cowboy blazing on his trusty horse through the dust
and tumbleweeds in the American Wild West, gun in one holster and
trusty bullwhip in the other. This is that bullwhip, except even
better. The MidWestWhips Classic American bullwhip, though still
as robust and rugged as its crude swivel-handled cowhide ancestors, has
been refined by decades of American whipmaking experience to become one
of the most functional and durable short-handle whips available to the
modern cowboy (or cowgirl). These whips are available in 8, 12
and 16 plait and feature as standard an 8" handle foundation and 6x7
turkshead handle knob. Whip length is measured from base of
handle knob to the end of the braiding (not including the fall or
popper). Wristloop is optional - please indicate your preference
in the notes section of your order. The Classic American Bullwhip
is a cultural icon which will undoubtedly outlive us all, and with
proper care your MidWestWhip will survive to be passed on to your
grandchildren or beyond.
Please choose from our standard colors: natural tan, saddle tan,
whiskey, brandy, or black. For unique colors or two-color whips

4ft - A size best suited for
high speed whipwork or the whipcracker who will be working
indoors. Also an effective length for super accurate target
cutting. This small bullwhip is a staple for performers around
the world (for example, Travis Fessler of the Pickled Brothers Sideshow
slices a flower from his wife's mouth while
swallowing a sword using
one of our 4ft classics). |

5ft - Another great
size for indoor whipcracking and precision target work. Long
enough for easy wraps, but short enough for fast routines and confined
spaces. |

6ft - In our
opinion, this is the perfect length of whip for a beginning
whipcracker, and still also a favorite length for many experienced whip
artists. It is short enough to be very manageable, but long
enough to be able to easily feel (and see!) the thong rolling out into
powerful and loud cracks. (MidWestWhips sent several 6ft classics
which were used on screen in the movie The Rundown starring The Rock). |

8ft - A good length
for the beginning whipcracker who is determined to learn on a longer,
slower flowing bullwhip (we recommend beginning with nothing longer
than an 8ft!). This length requires a large working radius and
slower motion, but the beauty of the cracking loop shooting toward the
popper for that extra loud BANG is unmatched by any short whip.
(The 2009 Quentin Tarantino film Inglorious Basterds
bought one of our 8ft classics with custom knot colors - so keep your
eyes open when the film hits the theatres in
June!). |

10ft - What can we
say? It's long, it's slow, and it's LOUD. Really
LOUD. In the hands of a more experienced whipcracker, this length
fully shows off the powerful and graceful beauty of a long whip.
This length lends itself well to flicks, and can therefore do some very
showy and impressive looking wraps from long distances. |

12ft - If you've
ever heard someone say they used to crack a fly off of a horse's
hindquarters with a 12ft whip, this is your chance to try it for
yourself! In all seriousness though, 12ft whips require a lot of
practice for target work, and we recommend them more often for an
experienced whip cracker who wants to add an extra long whip to his
collection for occasional use and demonstrating the loops and hairpins
a whip uses to create the "crack."
